Fennek

Fennek — meaning ‘fox’ — was founded in 1895 in the famous ironworking village of Premana, Italy — a place well known as Italy’s counterpart to famed cutlery hubs such as Solingen or Sheffield, as nearly all of the country’s scissor production takes place there. Today, Fennek is run by the fifth generation of the founding family and is celebrated globally for blending traditional, generations-old craftsmanship with precise metallurgy, earning their flagship pieces titles such as ‘The Ferrari of Kitchen Scissors’ by the Wall Street Journal.

The company’s meticulous manufacturing process relies heavily manual skill to ensure a lifetime of performance. Production begins by drop-forging blanks from high-grade AISI 420 stainless steel or C50 carbon steel, which are then heat-treated via Martensite hardening in a controlled atmosphere to achieve a balanced Rockwell hardness of HRC 55-57.

After extensive robotic and manual grinding to ensure ergonomic handles, each pair is individually aligned, balanced and hand-assembled. Fennek engineers their hinges entirely without tension springs to extend the tool’s lifespan, resulting in a signature stiff motion that requires a brief breaking-in period.
