Fil au Chinoise linen capsule, ochre

A tangle-free capsule containing 50m of Ochre linen thread for hand needlework. Produced in northern France, the thread is lightly waxed for easier sewing. Before the advent of domestic sewing machines linen was the material of choice for the discerning seamstress or tailor, being stronger, lint free, and less prone to fraying than cotton. For these reasons it is still used today in the manufacture of high quality footwear.
