A useful lidded jar for general household use, hand-thrown for us in stoneware by Jynsym Ong, a mile or so from the Objects of Use store. Handy in the kitchen for storing dry kitchen goods such as sugar and spices, equally so at home in the bedroom or bathroom for keeping cotton balls, swabs, and other toiletry essentials. Glazed inside and out in a beautiful tenmoku — black, with flecks of brown around the rim or in areas with thinner application. Trained at Clay College, Stoke-On-Trent, Ong then undertook an apprenticeship at Mitoh Gama (Kiln) in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture. She often uses a kick wheel to impart a rhythm that is completely dictated by the body to her work. Ong recently set up studio in Oxford, making stoneware pieces which are fired in a gas kiln. 13cm tall, 10cm diameter, approximately.
