Mushroom knife, willow, birch & tampico

A mushroom picker of unstripped Finnish willow mounted with a lightly sharpened birch blade, hard enough to cut the delicate stems of most wild fungi, and with a tampico brush to clean soil and leaf compost from the freshly harvested mushrooms. Handmade by the craftspeople of a Finnish visually impaired workers cooperative, whose long tradition of hand brush manufacture throughout the northern Europe has helped preserve skills which might otherwise long since have vanished.
