A hand sand-cast solid brass tray from a foundry established in 1897 in the Japanese city of Takaoka in the Toyama Prefecture. With minimal chasing, the castings are left largely 'i-hada', i.e. with a raw cast surface maintaining any texture or discolouration drawn from the sand into which they were poured — a beautifully direct connection to the tray's manufacturing method, with each resulting tray a unique tracing of it's one-off green sand mold. With a patina that will build with time, in true wabi-sabi style, this tray will naturally tarnish over time with exposure to use and air, developing a beautiful and unique finish. 25cm diameter.
