Catalonian Axe No.2 with Hammer

Catalonian Axe No.2 with Hammer
£64.00
Ex Tax: £53.33

The larger of our two sizes of Catalonian Hunter axe, with hammer to the reverse. Traditionally used for breaking down carcasses, as well as cutting through light brush. Hand produced at the workshops of Cuchillería Pallarès, the one surviving knife and tool maker in a town once dotted with small manufacturers. Founded in 1917  by brothers Lluís and Carles Pallarès Canal, they are now a third generation family company with a workforce of 15 whose owners and management still split their time between administrative necessity and manual craft production.

This blade is made from carbon steel, which keeps a better edge than stainless, but will develop rust spots if left wet or kept damp and will naturally discolour in use — dry after use and oil regularly to keep it in good condition.

By purchasing this item you are confirming that you are over the age of 18, and that we may contact you prior to dispatch in order to verify this. Orders including any bladed items will incur an additional courier age verification charge and legally require delivery to persons aged 18 and over.

Care Advice

Hand wash only, and never leave soaking. Dry immediately, followed with a light coating of camellia or a mineral oil. Store in a dry environment to prevent rust formation. A sharp knife is a safe knife — use a honing rod to keep a fine edge, and sharpen with a stone when necessary. Treat the wooden handle with a mineral oil when necessary to condition the wood and prevent warping and cracking.
