Kamefuku means 'happy turtle' in Japanese — this friendly little cooking pot promises to become a regular favourite in your kitchen. Great for soups, stews and hotpots, donabe are traditional Japanese clay pots used for cooking over an open flame. Heavy, attractive, and meant to last for generations, they easily transition from the stovetop to the table, and are a staple in everyday Japanese home cooking. The lid can sit stably on the table when turned upside down, thanks to the shape of the handle. Made in Aichi Prefecture in Japan by Marumitsu Poterie, established in 1950, who create table and kitchenwares embracing both traditional and modern ceramic techniques, using a diverse range of natural materials (porcelain, stoneware, earthenware and open-fire resistant earthenware). Their collection of tableware and donabes are made from natural clay excavated from the Japanese mountains, shaped and glazed by hand, with dipped or hand-brushed glazes. The surface and rim of this item have a rough texture due to the use of coarse clay. The way colour irregularities and baked nuances occur varies from item to item due to the properties of the glaze and the firing temperature. Measures 298mm in diameter and 145mm high, with a capacity of 2 litres. Microwave, oven and open fire safe, but not dishwasher safe.
