A traditional earthenware medium-sized footed bowl with slipware glaze, made in Oxfordshire by Jane Bowen. Each bowl is individually unique, as Bowen's loose, hand-thrown style creates a slightly different shape each time, while the hand-brush coloured slip creates unique patterns in the kiln. After each piece has been wheel thrown, the clay dries to leather hard, at which point coloured slip (liquid clay, is applied and allowed to dry, before the piece is fired, at a relatively low temperature in order to achieve the most beautiful result. A clear glaze is then applied to seal the piece. After studying Ceramics at Camberwell, Bowen went on to work in potteries in Delhi and Devon, before apprenticing to Oxfordshire based potter Clive Bowen (and marrying his son, Dylan). Measures approximately 13cm diameter x 9.5cm high. Microwave and dishwasher safe. Slipware creates a softer finished piece than other types of clay, and should be handled with care to avoid chipping.
