A finely thrown cup for wine or other beverages that can be pre-chilled by placing in the refrigerator. Glazed on the interior with an ash glaze, and left unglazed on the outside, allowing natural wood-firing ‘toasting’ to develop. The rounded shape of the cup is designed to sit comfortably in the hand. Wheel-thrown in the Cotswolds village of St Chloe by Tom Knowles Jackson. A potter from a young age, Knowles Jackson returned to ceramics following careers in the army and business, and now creates his own standard range of high fired stoneware. Using a small range of glazes derived from iron, copper and wood ash, Knowles Jackson fires his pieces in a self-built down-draught wood fired kiln. Each cup measures approximately 7cm in diameter with a height of 9cm, though due to the hand-thrown nature of Tom’s work, this may vary by a centimetre or so.
