An intricately hand-crocheted shoulder bag made from Sasawashi fibres with a wooden button closure. Sasawashi yarns are made from twisted strips of paper, the composition of which is part Washi, and part Kumazasa. The wider the strip the thicker the yarn, and once they have been spun they can be woven or knitted into products with the same durability as cotton and will only soften and improve with time. Made by Tohoku Crochet, based in the nature-rich Tono City, Iwate Prefecture. After the devastation of the 2011 earthquakes in the region, a volunteer knitting workshop was set up for women in the area to help uplift spirits. Naturally, these women became incredibly skilled and passionate in this craft, leading to the creation of Tohoku Crochet. Made in Japan. Measures 30 x 28cm with the shoulder strap measuring 45cm from the shoulder to the top of the bag.
