Gunma Japanese Five Bundle Hand Broom, Woven Sorghum

Gunma Japanese Five Bundle Hand Broom, Woven Sorghum
£69.00
Ex Tax: £57.50
A hand-bound sorghum small sweeping broom made in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Perfect for sweeping staircases, corners, shelves, porches, door frames and architraves. A hanging loop at the end allows this beautiful broom to be displayed and kept within easy reach. Sorghum is more commonly known as rice straw or even broom corn in the west and refers to a group of grasses used for brush-making throughout much of the world. Traditionally planted in early June, and harvested in mid August to give optimal length between the ligule — the point at which the stem splits —and tip for the production of high-quality brushes. The broom fibres measure 21 cm in length with a width of 8cm, allowing the fibres to flex easily, for ease of sweeping in tight corners or underneath low cupboards. Measures 8 x 46cm with a handle length of 8cm.

Care Advice

Keep dry when not in use. In the case of wet-use brushes, please shake any excess moisture from the bristles, and dry hanging up or on a surface with the bristles facing down. Clean brushes only when necessary with a little dish soap and hot water, making sure to dry thoroughly. Condition the wooden surface every now and then with a beeswax furniture polish, or mineral oil, to prevent cracks or splitting.
  • Item Dimensions 20-1535
