With a stock shaped from boreal birch, the shorter fibres are of light coloured tampico (harvested from an agave found only in the Chihuahuan desert). The longer dark arenga (a type of palm fibre traditionally used for the most hardwearing nautical rope) is slightly stiffer, to reach and clean between the slats of sauna benches, or into the grooves of wood panelling, metal grills and griddles.
