A cast iron bottle opener, with a baked red oxide urushi finish, designed to rest inverted over the neck of a bottle for storage or serving, and to provide a store for collecting pulled crown caps during use. Produced in Yamagata a city whose fine river sand has proven ideal for the production of ferrous and non ferrous castings for nearly a millennia, and granting it renown throughout Japan most especially for the production of Tetsubin - iron teapots. Approximately 6.5cm high with a diameter a little under 5cm.
