Linen: Washing

Linen: Washing
A Guide to Washing Linen
To wash linen, it is recommended to use lukewarm water around 30-40 degrees celsius. Any temperature higher can cause damage, and significant, undesirable shrinkage. To avoid agitating the fabric too much, we recommend washing linens by hand, or on a delicates setting. Linen should not be bleached. To remove stains, we recommend using Marius Fabre’s white household soap by gently rubbing the block onto the affected area with a bit of water. For tougher stains, sodium bicarbonate or low hydrogen peroxide solutions can be used.
Air drying is best for linen, allowing it to breathe and maintain its natural texture without excessive shrinkage, though some can occur after a wash. It is best to re-form and smooth out linen clothing while wet. In the case of tea towels and sheets, gently pulling their corners while wet will help them dry into their original shape and smoothness.

Minimising Wrinkles

Shorter spin cycles in the washing machine or placing linen in a laundry bag to minimise twisting will help reduce the amount of wrinkles after washing.
