A set of four fully nickel-plated sewing and embroidery scissors neatly wrapped in a waxed canvas roll. A perfect gift for the dressmaker or sewing enthusiast, this set includes a pair of 10” Tailor’s Shears, 8” Wiss Dressmaker’s Shears, 6” Sewing Scissors and a pair of 3.5” Embroidery Scissors — all made in Premana, Italy, by Fennek, one of this historical scissor-making town's oldest makers. The waxed canvas roll is bespoke made in Oxfordshire for Objects of Use, crafted from the darkest green waxed cotton with antique copper eyelets and rivets, complete with a leather cord for wrapping around the roll.
Each pair of scissors is made from drop forged C50 carbon steel blanks which are then Martensite hardened, making them strong, hard and resistant to wear. The scissors are then expertly worked and assembled by a resident Regolatore (known as a 'Puttertogetherer' in the UK) before being plated with nickel, providing a protective layer that helps prevent rust and wear from friction. The handles go through several stages of grinding and polishing, while the blades are traditionally sharpened with hollow internal blades. Premana could be called Italy's equivalent to Sheffield in the UK or Solingen in Germany, home to the country's best makers of scissors and knives.
When cared for properly, these scissors are able to withstand generations of work, making them a true heritage piece to be enjoyed and used. Avoid moisture, as these scissors can tarnish or rust if exposed. It is recommended that these scissors are stored in a dry place, and oiled occasionally if necessary.
